The backbone of the video is a speech given by Charlie Chaplin in the movie called “The Great Dictator“, shot in 1940. I had never heard this before and was so glad that I finally did yesterday. This video and it’s message is amazing. It’s one of those make your throat burn and eyes leak videos, at least for me it was. It reminds us to snap out of it and realize the beauty and kindness that’s out there, and to pursue it in spite of all the calamity and evil that’s also present. You can find renditions of this all over YouTube, but this was the best one in my opinion that I came across. Enjoy!

  1. Jae says:

The message I got from it is we should look to ourselves for the answers and not politicians or the president or governments. I think it was Gandhi who said, “Be the change you seek.” That’s the message I took from this.

  2. Chatty Owl says:

    Yes, definitely worth watching.

    • Rahburt says:

Glad you listened and chose to watch it ;). Hope it left a lasting impression on you too. One of my favorite parts was when warned the soldiers not to be lead blindly.

  3. I have seen this video earlier. You are right, it is all about taking responsibility oneself and avoid a mindset of blame in the absence of support.

    • Rahburt says:

Well said Shakti. I liked when you said avoiding a mindset of blame in the absence of support. That is definitely a difficult thing to practice.

  4. GrowlTigger says:

Great to hear Chaplin’s speech afresh. In the many years since I first heard it I had forgotten how good it is and how relevant it still remains. Thanks for sharing this version, with the little news clips that help emphasises the main points! 🙂

    • Rahburt says:

I had never heard it prior to just recently and it’s amazing. You’re the images combined with his words definitely pack a moving emotional punch. I watched a few, but this one seemed to marry the 2 best in my opinion.

  5. mahammasood says:

It’s one of the best speeches we were told to watch when joint the college debate club! Always worth sharing some gems. Thank you for the invaluable reminder
